GIF-UP night concluded with awards for the best GIF creators

On October 29, in 201 Engaging Space in Podgorica participants had the opportunity to learn everything they needed to know about the GIF UP project, supported by the SMART Balkans Creative box grant conducted by the NGO TNT, as part of which the GIF-UP night was organized. After the presentation of achievement, the moderator Dragan Luičić introduced the guests of the panel where artificial intelligence and digital art discussed, as well as the moments when they come together, but also moments when they are opponents. The panel’s guests, art theorist Luka Rakojević, Ph.D., and ML engineer in Uhura and founder of the Montenegrin AI Association, illuminated many interesting aspects of this story to the audience.

After the panel, it was time to review the work that had been submitted. Nineteen of the thirty pieces submitted fulfilled the competition’s requirements. The three-member jury’s decisions were released after the screening.

The gif called ‘Fake News’ by Maša Laković was announced for the best work of this year’s Gif Up!

“The gif shows a car with the license plate ‘Fake news’. This visual metaphor emphasizes the dynamics and efficiency of spreading fake news, using the speed of vehicles as a symbol of their rapid distribution. The modern design of the car further enhances the impression of sophistication, pointing out that fake news often comes disguised in attractive and ‘reliable’ packaging”, the author said.

Marija Milačić received the second award for her work ‘Formation of Consciousness’.

She described her work with the following words: “Today’s society does not accept differences, and we form our own opinions through the information available to us. The media plays a big role in this development, and influences society to become polarized”.

Stress is bigger than me is the name of the third-placed work by Vladana Lalić.

“With this work, I wanted to show what it’s like to be isolated, full of stress and have a problem with mental health. Some people are afraid to ask for help, so I wanted to show how problems disappear with one call”, she said.

NGO TNT decided to hand out a special award. Borjan Šućur, the competition’s youngest participant, received it.
