Volunteers’ Centre of Vojvodina

Summary of the project

This project aims to address the global problem of climate change and the ecological crisis, as well as the local issue of a lack of education among the citizens of Novi Sad regarding environmental protection. In both global and local contexts, the challenges of air pollution and waste management remain crucial due to their impact on human health, which, in turn, affects the safety and security of local communities. While the climate crisis is a global, systemic, and systematic problem that requires a systematic solution, it also necessitates the involvement of individuals who often lack basic information and resources needed to adapt their lifestyles to environmental requirements more easily.

Project goals

The general goal of this project is to enhance the capacity of Novi Sad’s citizens to understand and embrace sustainable practices, thereby increasing their individual contributions to improving the state of the environment.

The specific goals are:

  • To inform citizens of Novi Sad about composting and provide guidance on building their own composters;
  • To facilitate engagement and collaboration among individuals with common interests in waste reduction;
  • To raise awareness within the broader community, both in and outside of Novi Sad, about the impact of inadequate waste management systems and the consequences of current practices for human and environmental health.

Beneficiaries

The project will enable 20 people from Novi Sad to get the opportunity to learn the theoretical aspects of composting and the impact this method has on the environment, as well as to try out the techniques of classic and bokashi composting with training on building these composters. Additionally, after the workshops, 10 local initiatives and organizations will each receive a classic composter to continue these practices within their communities. Besides the direct beneficiaries, through a social media campaign, ideas, values, and practical information will also reach the wider community of VCV followers on social networks.
