In recent years, housing has gained increased prominence on a global scale. However, in North Macedonia, it remains relatively subdued in public discourse, primarily limited to discussions about the number of newly built apartments and real estate market prices. It does occasionally surface in everyday conversations, especially when individuals consider renovating their homes or changing their place of residence. Nevertheless, the topic of housing has yet to capture widespread attention.
Recognizing this gap, the Housing and Tenants Organization, a local initiative grant recipient, has identified the urgent need to raise broader societal awareness regarding the importance of housing, particularly among the younger population. This initiative seeks to address the need for more strategic planning and highlight the pivotal role that housing plays in improving overall quality of life.
Their situational analysis uncovered that young people have limited knowledge and opportunities when it comes to suitable housing. Additionally, there is a lack of organized platforms through which they can advocate for better housing conditions tailored to their specific demographic. As a response to these findings, the Housing and Tenants organization has developed a handbook specifically tailored for young individuals who are interested in participating in decision-making processes related to adequate housing. This handbook serves as educational material, with the aim of generating interest in the subject, promoting critical thinking, and fostering a shift in attitudes towards high-quality housing. Moreover, it serves as a call to action, advocating for affordable and accessible housing options for the youth.
