Crisis Communication that Works: Practical Guidelines and Proven Examples

Has your civil society organization faced a situation that require crisis communication? Can you identify the key indicators of a communication crisis? Are you familiar with effective strategies for communicating with the public during a crisis? Do you know the important components of a crisis protocol and how to apply them in practice? Discover the answers to these and other questions related to successful communication at valuable training session organized by the Centar za promociju civilnog društva (CPCD) within the SMART Balkans-Civil Society for a Shared Society in the Western Balkans project, on the topic: Crisis Communication that Works: Practical Guidelines and Proven Examples.

Duration: 120 minutes

The training aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify, prevent, and effectively manage crises through proper communication.
During this training, you will have the opportunity to learn:

  • How to recognize a crisis: Understanding what define a crisis, identifying potential risks, and determining when a public response is required.
  • Basic concepts include: Crisis protocol, the golden hour response, holding statement, and other key terms.
  • Rules of crisis communication: Learning the core principles of crisis communication, such as the 5P’s, 5R’s, and 5C’s, to ensure an effective response in crisis situations.
  • Examples of risks for civil society in the Western Balkans: Presenting specific risks and challenges faced by civil society in the region, as well as ways to prepare for and respond to these situations, including examples of both good and bad practices.

The focus will be on specific risks for civil society in the Western Balkans, including: discrediting individuals, the stereotype of foreign-funded agents, and the departure of donors or reduction of funding.

The trainer is Paulina Janusz, a Polish communications consultant specializing in crisis management, strategic communications, and political marketing. Throughout her career, she has developed strategies and crisis protocols for numerous civil society organizations in the Western Balkans.
