Collaboration between the CPI Foundation and the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Bosnia and Herzegovina was achieved at the mutual “Ibret”*

The start of the realization of the SMART Balkans Creative Box project for the CPI Foundation meant an opportunity for a creative breakthrough in the previous work. Given the general lack of media content, and radio programs in particular, the CPI Foundation undertook the organization, scriptwriting, recording, and production of a radio drama. The goal was to highlight and initiate discussions on governance issues such as freedom of expression, the fight against fake news, public administration reform, civil society participation in decision-making, and the fight against the gray economy and corruption.

“The topics addressed by the radio drama were very familiar to us, considering the CPI Foundation has been active in these areas for more than fifteen years. However, the format itself was something new to us. On this occasion, we also gathered a team of young second-year students from the Acting Department of the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. Thanks to the shared ideas and enthusiasm, the radio drama “Ibret” was completed, aiming to perceive the problems of BH society and its citizens from a different perspective.” , pointed out from the CPI Foundation.

In addition to being available on the official YouTube channel, the CPI Foundation made the radio drama “Ibret” available to the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Cooperation with the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Bosnia and Herzegovina gave us an opportunity to learn about their work, library collection and to hear about the experiences of the volunteers and members. For the library members, the topics we addressed are relatable, but the radio drama format itself is entirely new, very interesting and innovative.”, added the CPI Foundation.

Among the users of the library is Vedin Hajduković, graduate Professor of Pedagogy, who has been using the the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired in BiH for over forty years. After listening to the radio drama “Ibret”, the impressions are:

“The concept of the ‘Ibret’ is interesting and completely new in the library collection. It’s good that the blind and visually impaired can get acquainted with a more modern concept. ‘Ibret’ will surely encourage all our users who have already listened to it to think about the covered topics, and it might even awaken a thirst for reading in those who didn’t have the desire before. Innovative approaches are always significant for attracting new young members.”, concluded Hajduković.

Vedran Jakupović, a university professor, as a library volunteer, has read and recorded more than a dozen books. He has also published and recorded a book of stories containing a QR code on the covers, enabling blind and visually impaired individuals to listen to the content.

“It is important to bring books closer to people who cannot read and to make the experience vivid. I also love to read, but I read much more dedicatedly and attentively when I work in the library because I want the users to enjoy listening to the book.”, Vedran said.

At the CPI Foundation, they are pleased that, through the drama “Ibret”, they offered users a new experience, that will enable them to gain new insights, so we conclude the story with a sentence from one of the users of the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired:

“Every book is new knowledge, and every sentence is a new experience.”
