Workshop for Preparation of the Action Plan for Drugs of the Republic of North Macedonia for 2024-2025

From February 12th to 15th, the first workshop for developing the Action Plan for Drugs of the Republic of North Macedonia 2024-2025 took place in Berovo.

One of the key objectives of the project is to strengthen the national drug policy of the Republic of North Macedonia. A crucial step towards achieving this is development of the Action Plan for Drugs 2021-2023. This plan provides a comprehensive framework for addressing drug-related issues across the country.

The direct beneficiaries of this effort include the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, relevant ministries, institutions, and civil society organizations working in the field of drug policy. Indirectly, the initiative benefits people who use drugs, youth, and society as a whole.

The National Drug Strategy 2021-2025 serves as the foundation of North Macedonia’s drug policy. To ensure its full and effective implementation, the development of the Action Plan for 2024 and 2025 is crucial. This plan not only provides a structured approach for addressing drug-related challenges but also enhances the overall success of the national strategy. By preparing and executing this Action Plan, North Macedonia strengthens its ability to tackle drug-related issues and fosters a more coordinated, impactful response across all sectors involved.

The development of the Action Plan for Drugs 2024-2025 has proven to be a pivotal endeavor in advancing North Macedonia’s drug policy. As Darko Kostovski, a psychiatrist and member of the working group, notes, this initiative has not only provided his team with a sense of recognition for their tireless efforts in the field of addiction treatment but also reinforced the importance of their work in addressing a critical public health issue. Vlatko Dekov, a consultant for drug policy, further emphasizes the broader significance of the Action Plan, highlighting that while the process is complex, it is essential for improving national drug policy and benefiting the government, civil society organizations, and the citizens of North Macedonia.

Together, these reflections underscore the collective commitment and shared vision of all stakeholders involved in crafting a more robust and effective approach to addressing drug-related challenges across the country.
