From August 4 to 10, 2024, the Summer School for Digital Rights and Cyber Security was held at the Metropol Hotel in Ohrid, as part of the project “Creating a Safer Digital Environment for Young People.” This initiative, aimed to equip young individuals with essential skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
A total of 28 young participants from various cities across the country gathered for the event, which focused on critical topics such as the right to personal data protection and privacy, cyber violence and harassment, human rights and digital rights (including freedom of speech and hate speech), digital gender-based violence, and media literacy—particularly in the context of fake news and fact-checking.
The lectures were delivered by experts Bojana Netkova, Liliana Petsova Ilievska, and Marina Trajkova, who shared their knowledge and expertise on these important subjects. The Summer School, designed for youth aged 15 to 19, offered interactive sessions where participants not only gained valuable knowledge but also explored new trends in these rapidly evolving areas. Additionally, the event fostered creativity, social interaction, and physical activity, providing a well-rounded experience for all attendees.
At the conclusion of the program, all participants received certificates in recognition of their successful participation in the Summer School for Digital Rights and Cyber Security. This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering young people with the tools and understanding needed to protect themselves in the digital space and to become responsible digital citizens.
