Public pressure plays a crucial role in driving positive change. To support this cause, we organized a public petition on the SCF website, urging the Parliament to adopt specific amendments to the Law on Public Information and Media and the Law on Electronic Media. Remarkably, within just 20 hours, more than 7,000 citizens had signed the petition, demonstrating widespread public support for the proposed changes
The primary stakeholders in this project were members of Parliament, with the media community, media outlets, and individual journalists as the main beneficiaries. This outcome was achieved in collaboration with our partners, the Coalition for Freedom of Media and CRTA (Center for Research, Transparency, and Accountability).
While the result itself was an ad-hoc achievement and not something that could be directly applied in the future, the activity played a crucial role in raising awareness among citizens about the key obstacles to media freedom in the newly proposed laws. This increased awareness serves as a long-term outcome, providing a foundation for future advocacy efforts to address these challenges and drive meaningful change.
