Report: Violent Extremism and Youth – From Misinformation to Radicalization

In February 2024, a round table convened to discuss the findings of a public opinion survey conducted among a sample of 1,000 young people. The event brought together representatives from state institutions, international organizations, and the non-governmental sector to explore practical recommendations aimed at promoting youth prosperity, encouraging activism and integration, and preventing violent extremism.

The survey, conducted between August 23 and September 10, 2023, delved into various topics, capturing young people’s attitudes toward politics, democracy, security, media influence, and pressing issues such as the war in Ukraine and Kosovo. The findings revealed a complex picture: while many young people remain optimistic and ambitious about their futures, there is a prevailing concern regarding the direction in which Serbia is heading. This dual sentiment underscored the importance of fostering environments that support youth engagement and address their anxieties about the country’s trajectory.
