Online tools to counter disinformation and propaganda

Summary of the project implemented by Centar za analizu medija i politike

The media in BiH is increasingly dependent on the political centers of power. With the growing importance of social networks, the public space in which information is disseminated is burdened by the spread of disinformation and propaganda by various actors who are connected to political entities.

This project aims to contribute to the reduced polarization of public space and the creation of a democratic environment in which citizens can exercise their rights without hindrance. Through the exposure of disinformation and propaganda circulating in the online space, the project will contribute to the media literacy of citizens.

Through the project, Centar za analizu medija i politike will try to reach out citizens, mainstream and other media with relevant media monitoring information, and will produce analyzes of the television content of TV stations, as well as analyzes of content in online media through which propaganda and disinformation are spread.

Project goals

The project was designed with the aim of encouraging citizens to critically question media content and demand responsibility from both elected officials and journalists and editors. At the same time, the project aims to empower media workers in their professional conduct.

Activities

Content production

Monitoring television stations and writing analyzes on the programs of central news broadcasts;
Creation of analytical articles on propaganda and disinformation in the online media space. Fake&Spin thematic analysis;
Preparation of other media analyses, which include legal analyzes of the media legislative framework, educational articles on media and information literacy, and analysis of thematic content on other online media, depending on current events and the needs of the public.

Editorial work with authors

The editorial team will continue cooperation with existing authors, engaging them regularly and occasionally depending on their expertise and availability, and the decision of the editors on which topics are the most important for analysis in a certain period. Editors will ensure that authors understand and follow the Content Analysis Guidelines.

Publication and distribution

The complete content will be published on the website and published on the Facebook and Twitter pages of Analiziraj.ba. Also, all comments on the mentioned platforms will be moderated, and special attention will be directed to the removal of content that constitutes hate speech, defamation or generally constitutes indecent speech.
