Summary of the project implemented by Capital 

The project seeks to address the issue of corruption in BiH, which threatens the country’s long-term stability and prosperity. The project will fill the deficit in quality reporting on corruption and expand public support for investigative journalism. It will apply data-based journalism to help the public understand corrupt activities and inform 60,000 BiH citizens about known cases of economic crime and corruption, highlighting non-transparent public funds distribution, and expanding the reach and quality of investigative journalism by publishing 12 articles over six months.  

Project goals

  • To introduce 60,000 Bosnia and Herzegovina citizens to known cases of economic crime and corruption, different aspects of public funds expenditure, and to highlight examples of opaque or subjective distribution of public funds and corruption through objective media and professional reporting. 
  • To expand the reach, impact, and quality of investigative journalism and professional reporting

Beneficiaries

The project “Javna Tajna” aims to benefit multiple groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the general public, media professionals, and those working to combat corruption. The specific target groups include citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who will be informed about known cases of economic crime and corruption, different aspects of public spending, and non-transparent or subjective distribution of public funds and corruption through professional reporting. The project also targets media professionals who will receive support in investigative reporting and will be able to expand their reach and influence.

Main activities 

  • Conduct research and investigate cases of economic crime and corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 
  • Compile and analyze data on public spending, abuse of power, and the harmful influence of political parties on public policies. 
  • Develop multimedia materials, including online data visualizations, to communicate investigative findings to the public. 
  • Produce articles that highlight cases of corruption and non-transparent distribution of public funds. 
  • Promote articles in the social media.
