The urbanism, construction, and spatial planning sector is highly susceptible to corruption. Unrealistic pricing can easily be presented, and urban planning can be swayed by various interest groups. Without strong state mechanisms for oversight, economic power diminishes, resulting in funds flowing into corrupt activities instead of the public budget. Ambiguous regulatory provisions can negatively impact citizens’ lives and the environment. In response, TI-Macedonia has supported the draft law amending the Law on Urban Planning submitted to Parliament by the O2 Initiative.
The beneficiaries of this initiative are the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia. Our partners in achieving this result include the O2 Initiative and the CSOs Platform Against Corruption.
The draft law amending the Law on Urban Planning was submitted to Parliament to enhance the transparency of the procedures for adopting urban plans and approving projects. This initiative aims to facilitate timely public participation, thereby reducing the risk of corruption. It serves as a foundation for further improving the existing legal framework and encourages the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders in the legislative processes related to environmental protection.
Collaboration among civil society organizations in Macedonia is essential for enhancing the legal framework and strengthening the rule of law. By working together, these organizations can drive positive outcomes and foster meaningful improvements in governance and accountability.
