Workshop with Media Smart Ambassadors and Group Assignment for Vlogs

On June 19, 2023, we hosted an engaging workshop for 20 young participants and 4 mentors, centered around the organization of groups and the assignment of vlog topics.

Group Formation and Vlog Topics: During the workshop, participants were divided into 4 groups, with each group assigned a distinct topic to explore through their vlogs. The topics chosen for the vlogs were:

  • Misinformation – Examining the spread of false information that is not intentionally misleading.
  • Disinformation – Addressing the deliberate creation and distribution of false information to deceive.
  • Malicious Information – Exploring information intended to cause harm or incite negative reactions.
  • Propaganda – Analyzing information used to influence opinions or behaviors in a biased manner.

These topics were selected to cover a broad spectrum of issues related to media literacy, ensuring that participants would engage with various forms of information manipulation and its impacts. Mentorship and Support: Each group was assigned a mentor to guide them through the vlog production process. The mentors were a mix of academic experts and professional journalists.

Workshop Activities: The workshop included comprehensive training on:

  • Roles and Responsibilities: Participants were briefed on their individual roles within their groups and the overall project goals.
  • Technical Skills: Detailed instructions were provided on filming techniques, editing processes, and effective storytelling methods to enhance the vlogs’ impact.
  • Team building: Various activities were conducted to strengthen group dynamics and foster collaboration among the participants.

Expected Outcomes: The ultimate goal of the workshop was to equip participants with practical skills in media production and deepen their understanding of media literacy. By the end of the project, each group is expected to produce a vlog that not only demonstrates their grasp of their assigned topic but also contributes to broader discussions on media influence and information integrity. This workshop represents a crucial step in the Media Smart project, offering participants hands-on experience and valuable insights into the world of media and communication.
