Advancing Justice: Res Publica’s Legal and Institutional Achievements

Res Publica made significant strides in legal advocacy, institutional development, and public engagement, supported in part by core grant funding. This support strengthened the organization’s capacity to defend human rights, ensure accountability, and pursue strategic litigation.

Throughout the year, Res Publica achieved key legal outcomes across multiple areas. Judicial victories against the Municipality of Tirana prevented unlawful demolitions, reinforcing oversight in urban planning. Eleven environmental organizations, supported by Res Publica, challenged government decisions to reduce the boundaries of national parks and protected areas, promoting ecological integrity and reinforcing the judiciary’s role in environmental governance. Legal representation in 48 cases, including the landmark Elton Qyno case, helped safeguard freedom of expression and protect journalistic materials from seizure. Additionally, over 200 access-to-information cases secured public access to official documents, including a ruling that compelled the Special Court to disclose investigative records to journalists.

Core grant support also enhanced Res Publica’s public outreach and communications. The organization expanded its digital presence through new Instagram and LinkedIn accounts, growing its online following to over 3,800 and increasing engagement on legal and human rights issues. A total of 43 high-quality articles were produced to raise awareness and foster informed public discourse. A bi-annual newsletter was launched, reaching 500 stakeholders with updates on legal victories and ongoing advocacy work. The redesigned website improved user experience and accessibility, providing more accessible legal resources and timely case updates.
