NSI: Strengthening Dialogue, Trust, and Evidence-Based Advocacy

In a context marked by political uncertainty, fragile trust, and deep social divisions, sustainability is not a luxury for civil society organizations — it is a necessity. For New Social Initiative (NSI), the SMART Balkans Core Grant has been far more than financial support. It has provided the stability and flexibility needed to grow as an organization, remain responsive to community needs, and pursue long-term impact.

Throughout 2025, this core support enabled NSI to strengthen its institutional foundations while continuing to work directly with communities whose voices are too often marginalized in public debate. Rather than operating project by project, NSI was able to plan strategically, invest in people and systems, and sustain key programs that require continuity to make a real difference

One of the most visible outcomes of this support has been the continued development of the Kosovo Trustbuilding Platform. With core funding, NSI ensured the platform’s technical maintenance, accessibility, and content development, keeping it active as a space to share positive stories, grassroots initiatives, and examples of inter-community cooperation. In an environment dominated by polarizing narratives, maintaining such a space has proven essential to promoting dialogue and trust.

Core support also enabled NSI to deepen its research and advocacy work. In 2025, the organization produced in-depth analyses of institutional accessibility and the economic challenges faced by non-majority communities, particularly in northern Kosovo. These publications translated everyday experiences into evidence-based insights that could be used in public discussions, advocacy efforts, and engagement with institutions and international stakeholders.
