In response to increasing natural disasters and accidents, the Municipality of North Mitrovica is implementing a new Local Plan aimed at reducing flood risks and improving emergency responses. This plan addresses the urgent need for effective disaster risk management and aligns with Kosovo’s unified civil protection system.
The initiative seeks to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations, local citizens, and climate change experts, to collaboratively tackle flood risks and enhance disaster preparedness. The plan emphasizes a comprehensive approach, integrating gender equality and support for marginalized communities into its strategies.
With the national disaster risk reduction strategy expired, North Mitrovica’s plan will fill the gap by providing localized solutions and promoting social cohesion. The proposed activities will foster stronger coordination among local and central institutions, ultimately improving the region’s resilience to natural disasters.
