Go Green Network meeting (7)

Go Green Brings Together Urban Cycling Organizations for a National Networking Event

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable urban mobility and cyclist safety, Go Green – Association for Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection organized the first national networking meeting for urban cycling organizations in North Macedonia.

The event gathered activists, organizations, and initiatives from across the country, both in person and online, to strengthen collaboration and exchange ideas on improving cycling infrastructure and policies at the local and national levels.

Key outcomes from the meeting included:

  • North Macedonia has strong potential to become a cycling-friendly country.
  • Enhanced cooperation is needed between cycling organizations, municipalities, donors, and the cycling community.
  • A national map of organizations, initiatives, and individuals working on urban cycling should be developed.
  • Women’s representation in urban cycling spaces should be strengthened, as data show that women cyclists already equal or outnumber men in many areas.

Participants also discussed the formation of a national network for urban cycling organizations, which would facilitate better coordination, joint advocacy, and partnership opportunities. The meeting underscored the importance of knowledge-sharing in the planning of new cycling infrastructure and the value of mutual support during public awareness activities.

With the support of the SMART Balkans, Go Green continues to work towards making cities across North Macedonia safer, greener, and more sustainable. The organization’s long-term goal is the introduction and implementation of a National Rulebook on Bicycle Infrastructure, ensuring that all future street and boulevard reconstructions include safe, consistent, and high-quality cycling and pedestrian infrastructure aligned with European and international standards.
