Training of Trainers: Working with youth to reduce the risk of disaster, with a focus on environmental and gender issues

The training program encompasses various topics, including natural and human-caused disasters, the relationship between climate change and natural disasters, gender aspects of emergency situations, such as the exposure of women and girls to disaster risks and the impact of disasters on women. It also covers the involvement of women and young people in disaster risk reduction, the significance of civil protection, the legal framework for disaster risk reduction, and the response of public administration.

Other areas of focus include risk assessment, vulnerability and capacity assessment, preparation, prevention, and advocacy within community response plans. The training delves into how young people perceive emergency and crisis situations and their readiness to adapt and respond effectively. The participants will draft a youth safety protocol that must be adopted by all associations seeking participation in the project’s subsequent stages.

Additionally, the program will introduce the topic of multisectoral cooperation in disaster risk reduction and the roles various actors play in the community. Upon completing the training, all participants will receive guidance and instructions for conducting workshops with young people. They will also receive an application form for participating in the next phase, which involves organizing workshops for young people.

The training is part of the project “Increasing the readiness and participation of civil society organizations and youth in disaster risk reduction in Serbia”, supported with a National Intervention grant under the SMART Balkans project.
