Panel discussion and Movie screening

Within SMART Balkans core grant support, Civic Alliance organize Forum on Transitional Justice and Confronting the Past, which will take place on December 16, 2024, in Bijelo Polje.

The program will include a panel discussion as well as the screening of The Man Who Could Not Keep Quiet, an award-winning documentary by acclaimed director Nebojša Slijepčević, whose work has been recognized at the Cannes Film Festival. This powerful film explores the courage required to confront silence in the face of injustice, providing a meaningful backdrop for the discussions that will follow.

In addition to a wide range of civil society representatives, event will gather numerous families affected by historical events, particularly those impacted by the 1993 abduction of passengers from Štrpci Station. Many of these families reside in Bijelo Polje and have expressed their commitment to engaging in this vital conversation. Municipal representatives, activists, and other advocates for transitional justice will also be present, emphasizing the forum’s importance as a space for reflection and reconciliation. Furthermore, the event will welcome representatives of the Government of Montenegro, local self-government, local politicians, NGO activists, media representatives, and citizens from Bijelo Polje and beyond.
